Emergency cards

In an emergency, you don’t always have the strength to explain your illness. An emergency card or sheet, always on you, lets healthcare staff know the essentials straight away.

What to write on your card?

A few details are enough: they must be readable at a glance.

Diagnosis

Your illness (and its type, for example hypermobile or vascular EDS), and important associated conditions.

Treatments and allergies

Long-term medication, known allergies and intolerances.

Precautions

What staff need to know: fragile skin, local anaesthetic that works less well, tube feeding…

Contacts

Your doctor or reference centre, and someone to contact.

Tip: print the emergency sheet, fill it in and keep it in your bag or wallet.
